If these walls could talk!
Every cottage has a story. Perhaps this story begins in 1908; the same year the first Model T rolled off Henry Ford's assembly line, the 46th star was added to our flag for Oklahoma, Albert Einstein presented his quantum theory of light, and the first passenger airplane flight took off, a Swiss-American woman named Josephine bought this land for $1,150. She paid for it in gold.
In 1916, as the First World War - called the "Great War" then - roiled around their homeland, Josephine and her husband Giacomo Varozza, built themselves a new home on their land here. As they spent their first nights in their new cottage, Babe Ruth, the Red Baron, and Charlie Chaplin all approached the zeniths of their careers, Coca-Cola introduced the recipe it still uses today, and the first woman was elected to the U. S. Congress.
Today, more than 100 years later, this cottage on Chamberlain has been home to an assortment of characters - each with their own stories. It has been home to both laughter and tears. From its small hill, it has watched the City of Placerville grow and change. It has borne witness to a century of transformation. Who can tell what stories are yet to be told?
May those who step inside this cottage always feel at home here!
